Former four-division champion Nonito Donaire had a bout of deja vu when the scorecards came down last Saturday night, for the twelve round split draw between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

While the fight was very entertaining, the majority of the post-fight focus has completely centered on the scorecard submitted by judge Adelaide Byrd, who had it 118-110 in favor of Canelo.

Donaire (37-4, 24 KOs), who returns on Saturday night against Ruben Garcia Hernandez (22-2-1, 9 KOs) at the Alamodome in San Antonio, had his own issue with Byrd last year when he lost his super bantamweight title to Jessie Magdaleno in Las Vegas.

In the fight with Magdaleno (25-0, 18 KOs), Donaire dropped a twelve round unanimous decision. Two of the official judges had it 116-112 - while Byrd had a very familiar score, of 118-110, in favor of Magdaleno.

Even among observers who saw Magdaleno as the winner, they felt Byrd's score was too wide.

So when Donaire watched Saturday's fight and heard the scores, he was quickly having flashbacks.

"I did get a little deja vu," Donaire told Brian Campbell of CBS Sports. "My wife and my team were talking to me about it. It was the same score.

"The whole Adelaide Byrd scoring [in Alvarez-Golovkin] was just nuts. I did not see it that way. A lot of people could have seen a close fight, and that's OK, but Adelaide Byrd did a ridiculous thing. It's just ridiculous. It's ruining [the sport] and it's actually pissing me off the more that I think about it. It's ruining boxing; it's ruining the game."

Even though Canelo is his friend and he backing him to win - Donaire believes Golovkin did enough to win the fight.

"I really thought GGG had him. I did not agree with the 118-110," Donaire said. "I thought it was a close fight, but I thought GGG was the man who made the fight happen. Secondly, he was the aggressor and was landing more. Overall, when it comes down to talent, I would have to say Canelo has the better talent. But when it comes down to that fight, I thought GGG pulled victory in his favor."
