Devin Haney vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa Deal in Place, Says Manager

Finally came the call that Yuriorkis Gamboa was waiting for. Bill Haney, father of his next opponent, told his camp that everything was ready for a fight on November 7.

The Cyclone of Guantanamo and Devin Haney, who holds the WBC lightweight championship, will face off on a card being streamed by DAZN. The location is unknown at the moment.

"I spoke to Haney's father and he assured me that everything is ready for November 7," said Jesse Rodriguez, Gamboa's manager, to George Ebro. "Yuri always wanted this fight from the beginning. Other names emerged, but he always insisted on bumping into Haney. Now it's going to be a reality.''

For several weeks, Haney's promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom, played with the idea of having his boxer face featherweight champion Gary Russell Jr., but fans showed their opposition to the weight difference.

But, very few felt Haney vs. Russell would ever come off. Gamboa was always viewed as the most realistic option.

"Yuri is very excited about this fight, now that he's healthy and rejuvenated,'" added Rodriguez, who also guides the careers of other Cubans like Joahnys Argilagos. "We are waiting for the contract to be sent to us, but the main issues are resolved.''

This would be the second time in a row that Gamboa is fighting a 135-pounder, after falling by knockout in the twelfth round against Gervonta Davis, the World Association champion, in a fight held on December 28 in Atlanta.

This would be, as with Davis, the classic battle between youth and experience - with Haney being as young as 21 and a 38-year-old veteran in Gamboa, who also comes back from a long period of recovery after suffering an Achilles Heel tear that required a visit to the operating room.

"He's totally recovered, everyone will be able to see Gamboa in great physical and mental condition," Rodriguez stressed. "It's amazing how Gamboa's name arouses interest every time it's mentioned."
Not sure if GRJ would move up to fight Shakur, because that wouldn't be a title fight! I think Loma is done with GRJ! He would want the Tank vs. LSC winner! Now if GRJ beat Tank, then Loma might…
Maybe I'll wake up to the Haney success story in a few years. For now, he's just a kid who hasn't done anything, and isn't trying.
Maybe we'll lucky and you'll stop crying till then Jesus Christ
