Anthony Yigit’s (16-0-1, 7 KOs) fight with Chris Goodwin (19-2-1) on April 23 at the Hovet in Stockholm has been called off after Goodwin picked up an injury in training. The British boxer tore a muscle in his back while preparing for their ten-round light welterweight clash
‘’Unfortunately, Chris Goodwin has injured himself in training and will be unable to compete on April 23,’’ said promoter Nisse Sauerland. ‘’It’s a shame for Anthony as I know he was looking forward to fighting in Stockholm in front of his home fans, but this is boxing, and injuries like this are not uncommon.’’
Yigit will now fight on May 7 in Hamburg on the undercard of the European Heavyweight title contest and IBF World title eliminator between Kubrat Pulev and Dereck Chisora.
‘’Anthony will not have to wait long to get back in the ring,’’ said Sauerland. ‘’He will be a part of a big show in Hamburg on May 7. This will be a good experience for him and another step forward as he moves closer to a title challenge later this year.’’
Swedish fans can still look forward to an action-packed show on April 23 in Stockholm. Erik Skoglund faces a tough twelve-round test against Ryno Liebenberg, Mikaela Lauren defends her WBC Female World Super Welterweight title against former World Champion Ivana Habazin, Klara Svensson rematches Lucia Morelli, the ‘Golden Boy’ Oscar Ahlin faces the ‘Tiger’ Patrick Mendy and Otto Wallin takes on the big punching Brazilian Irineu Beato Costa Junior.
