Deontay Wilder will be keeping busy this Saturday night when he takes on a Jason Gavern at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, CA as a fight with WBC Heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne looms for November. Wilder is known to stay active and taking on Gavern is a way to keep the rust off and be even more prepared for his upcoming assignment.

While the 2008 Olympics Heavyweight bronze medalist has his eyes set on Stiverne, Wilder also has the current WBA, IBF and WBO Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitshcko on his radar. The Klitschko brothers which included the now retired Vitali, have dominated the division for the last several years. The titles were basically held hostage by both brothers until Vitali finally vacated his WBC title which Stiverne now holds.

Wilder is confident that a showdown with him and Wladimir will eventually happen and he’d love nothing more than to be able to fight him and stake claim to the division before he leaves the sport.

“[I] definitely [want to fight Wladimir]. I think he already stated it would be an awesome fight too. I don’t’ think he’s going to retire no time soon. Everybody wants to see that fight. I want that fight and I’m sure he wants that fight. I think that fight’s going to be made. It has to be. I don’t want it to be a question like Mayweather and Pacquiao. I definitely want that fight if he doesn’t retire,” Wilder would tell BoxingScene.

Wilder’s size and freakish power are what make people believe he could be the one to finally put an end to the Klitschko run. 31 knockouts in 31 fights is an impressive feat for Wilder and he feels capturing the WBC title over Stiverne in November will be the perfect bait to lure in the reigning unified champion.

“Being the champion and having a belt, there’s no reason [it shouldn’t happen]. It can’t be on my part saying ‘he wasn’t ranked or he didn’t have no belts so the fight couldn’t be made because I’m very confident I will be the WBC champion. I will have a belt. He will have the remainder of the belts. We’ll probably beat up all the other guys and have a grand finale of unifying the belts. He wants the WBC belt so I don’t see him retiring without him getting what he wants. I think it’s going to be a mega fight,” stated the Heavyweight knockout artist.

There’s still work to be done in order for Wilder to be able to be in a position to face Wladimir and it all starts this Saturday night.
