BoxingScene.com spoke to Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar de la Hoya to clarify rumors of a possible junior welterweight fight between former champions Amir Khan and Humberto Soto in a Showtime televised fight on April 20th.

De la Hoya said that those rumors are false and that he feels Khan will want to face a high level opponent to regain the status he had before suffering back to back losses to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia.

"Those obviously are just rumors. Amir Khan is coming back and fighting in April but his opponent has not yet been determined," De La Hoya told BoxingScene.  "Knowing Amir Khan (out of) the names that we will be giving him he will want to fight the very best to climb back up the ladder.  That's one great thing about Amir Khan, he wants to fight the best.  He wants to go up against the best because ultimately he wants to be the top pound for pound fighter in the world. That is goal."

I asked De La Hoya to further clarify if that meant Soto wasn't in the running to face the Brit and Oscar flat out said, "No, he isn't in the running."
