Davies Gets Quality Work From The Wild Card Gym

Desperate to make a huge impression in the new season, Liverpool sensation, Robbie Davies Jnr, has gone all out in aiding his preparations with quality sparring sessions at Freddie Roach’s Wildcard gym in Los Angeles. The unbeaten Kirkby star who has his eyes firmly focused on domestic honours over the next 12 months was welcomed with open arms at the famous fight institution and Davies insists that he made a huge impression on the gym regulars.

“The trip to LA was just intended to be a holiday at first but I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to train there,” revealed Davies. “I was just doing my own thing in there on the bags when I was asked to spar. I got in some good rounds against quality fighters such as Anton Novikov and Antonio DeMarco and I more than held my own against them. Novikov was in the middle of preparing for his world title fight against Jessie Vargas but I was more than happy with how I performed against him.”

With Davies now back at the familiar surroundings of Dave Tonks’ Liverpool base following his American excursion, the former amateur international is readying himself for what should be a busy period in the upcoming season with Dave Coldwell and Eddie Hearn both prepared to propel the Merseyside youngster up the domestic 10st rankings.

“My next fight is on October 3rd but I’m hoping to get a few in before Christmas so that I can be stepped up again in the New Year. I’ve done 6 and 8 rounders now and I feel I’ve coped with them well but I’m not stupid enough to believe that I can just jump straight into a title fight and go 12 rounds. Give me a couple more fights where I’m going 8 rounds at a great pace then you’ll see me step up into more meaningful fights.”
