WBC/WBA junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17KOs) is hoping to make his welterweight debut by the summer. Garcia is returning this weekend at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. He will take on IBF junior welterweight champion Lamont Peterson in a catch-weight bout. None of their titles are at stake as the two boxers agreed to face each other at 143-pounds.
This is the second fight in row where Garcia is fighting above the junior welterweight limit, but he intends to move up to the welterweight division in the near future.
"I hope that by the summer I'll already be in the next division. My entire career has been at 140 and the time [to move up] is coming up. I sense the difference in the gym with the extra pounds, especially in sparring sessions," Garcia told Primera Hora. "This fight is important for my legacy. The fans were asking for it and it will be a great event. We are focused, ready and eager to fight again."
