Crawford-Beltran Early Results: Mike Reed Still Unbeaten

By Jake Donovan

CenturyLink Center, Omaha, Nebraska - The Cornhusker State will play host to an HBO-televised boxing event for the second time this year - and ever. That honor is entirely due to the rise of Terence Crawford, the unbeaten lightweight who faces Raymundo Beltran in a 12-round bout, with the winner to gain recognition by BoxingScene.com as the World lineal lightweight champion, which has been vacant for nearly three years.

In the televised co-feature, Evgeny Gradovich puts his featherweight belt on the line versus unbeaten Puerto Rican contender Jayson Velez.

Topping the non-televised undercard, Mike 'Yes Indeed' Reed enjoyed a successful first trip outside the East Coast region, preserving his unbeaten record with a closer-than-expected win over Oscar Valenzuela in a battle of unbeaten super lightweights. Scores were 77-75 (twice) and 79-76 in favor of Reed (12-0, 6KOs), a slick southpaw from Maryland who is still two months away from his 22nd birthday. Valenzuela suffers his first loss, falling to 8-1-1 (6KOs).

In a swing bout, 19-year old Zsolt Daranyi Jr. (2-0, 2KOs) stopped Javier Rodriquez in the fourth and final round. Daranyi Jr. - born in Hungary but now fighting out of Canada - took the home crowd advantage away early against Rodriquez (1-5, 0KOs), a hapless boxer from Grand Island, Nebraska. A pair of knockdowns in succession was enough to prompt a stoppage at 0:56 of round four.

Welterweight prospect, Alex Saucedo (16-0, 11KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over Daniel Calzada (10-12-2, 2 KOs). Calzada went down in the second and got punished throughout the contest. All three judges scored it 60-53.

In a four round featherweight contest, Bernard Davis (3-0, 1KO) picked up his first stoppage win with a second round TKO over Bryan Timmons (2-3 2KOs).

In a bantamweight fight, Johnny Determan (9-0, 8KOs) showed off his power by knocking out Manuel Galaviz (7-15, 3 KOs) with several hard shots in three rounds.
