Exhibition bouts in the boxing have become a great drawing magnet among fans.
This excitement of getting back into the ring, could be experienced by the ever popular Humberto "Chiquita" Gonzalez, when revealing that he is in a position to put on the gloves again, in the fashion of the eighties and nineties.
The former light flyweight champion of the World Boxing Council mentioned in a chat with ESTO that he would like to return to the ring for a benefit event, supporting those most in need. Ever since his friend Julio César Chávez invited him to take part in one,Gonzalez hopes that this possibility will happen when the coronavirus pandemic subsides.
“Julio proposed it to me, it was when there was a hurricane that hit Sinaloa,. I prepared myself, but it was not done, anyway, I am sure that I can get back into a ring without any problems and more so for an altruistic reason,” Gonzalez said.
A member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota indicated that nothing would give him more pleasure than doing it to help his community, Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl, State of Mexico.
“It is a very important community for me, I have always said it, I am prepared to do something for them and get into the ring to fight two or three rounds, I can do well,” he said.
Concerned about the situation in the world, about the coronavirus pandemic, Gonzalez is listening to the restrictions of the local government.
“We are concerned about everything you hear and see on the news, but to get ahead we must obey, we must stay in home, this is what they tell us is necessary, I know what it is to be away from family for a long time because I lived in my training camps before each fight. Sometimes it was two or three months isolated, alone and far, maybe that’s why I’m calm,“ Gonzalez said.
While this is happening, he has one of the best formulas to face this situation and maintain good health, he does not stop exercising:
“It is the best thing to be well, avoid the flu and feel great. I do a lot of exercises, I run, I don’t lose the discipline I had when I was a boxer, for me sport is my life, for a while I stopped doing it, I felt bad and after a checkup the doctor told me that I had to exercise and once I did it again I felt much better, that is the basis of health,” Gonzalez said.
