According to former two division world champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (47-1-1, 33KOs), there is no guarantee that he's moving up to 160-pounds in fall - and in fact there is guarantee of a fight in December.

The future, says Canelo, will rest on his performance and the outcome of the upcoming showdown with WBO junior middleweight champion Liam Smith.

Canelo vs. Smith will take place on September 17th from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It will be Canelo's first bout at the 154-pound limit since 2013.

Canelo's last five fights have taken place at the catch-weight of 155-pounds. He captured the middleweight title last November with a decision win over Miguel Cotto.

He retained that belt in May, with a brutal sixth round knockout of Amir Khan. Not too long after that win, Canelo vacated the WBC title and announced he was dropping a pound south to junior middleweight.

There is some discussion of Canelo returning in December as a full-fledged middleweight. Some of the possible opponents include WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders and the winner of Gabe Rosado vs. Willie Monroe Jr. - which takes place on the Canelo-Smith undercard.

At the moment, Canelo is not having any issues with squeezing down to 154 and says his body is feeling very good.

"We'll see what happens. Right now this fight [with Smith] comes first obviously. Those are just plans but there are a lot of plans. Right now we have to get past this fight and then we will see if there is a fight in December and who we will fight," Canelo said.

"Look, the biggest part of a fighter is battling weight. It always happens. But fortunately right now I'm feeling really, really good. The last few fights I wake up on the day of the weighin and I'm 154, so I hope that this is not the exception. I'm training really, really hard and I shouldn't have any problems."

Canelo has received some criticism for his last two opponents. When he sits down to select his next opponent, the Mexican superstar is not worried about critics and their views.

"That doesn't worry me. There is always going to be critics. Every fight I have there are always critics. What I worry about is training hard and to be ready for the fight," Canelo said.
