World Boxing Council (WBC) junior middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (41-0-1, 30KOs) is confident that his next opponent will either be Floyd Mayweather or Miguel Angel Cotto, and hopes that his promoter Golden Boy Promotions comes to terms with either of these pugilists.

Canelo also wanted to face WBC middleweight champion Sergio 'Maravila' Martinez, but that won't happen since Martinez is returning on April 27th in Argentina. Canelo will be ringside this Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York. He plans to watch Cotto challenge WBA "regular" champion Austin Trout. Canelo hopes Cotto wins because he doesn't have any interest in facing Trout - even if he defeats Cotto.

Canelo will return on May 4th.

"I'm sure [my next opponent] will be Mayweather or Cotto. My team is working on that and [they are] doing very well. We also wanted 'Maravilla' but he wants to fight in Argentina. Either one is a good match but I would rather face Mayweather because he is the best, pound for pound. A fight with one of them is very close to materializing and that makes me very happy," said Canelo.

"Everything depends on the outcome of Saturday's fight Cotto and that will clarify a lot of things. Right now I'm just thinking about Floyd or Miguel, and I'm not thinking about any other opponents. Trout is not [an opponent] my team likes, not what I want and I hope Cotto wins."
