Canelo-Khan: Golden Boy Working Hard To Finalize PPV Card

By Steve Kim

Right now the only fight set on the May 7th HBO pay-per-view card from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas is the main event, that features WBC middleweight titlist Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (46-1-1, 32KOs) versus Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs).

As for the rest of the pay-per-view bill?

"We've had like ten different ideas, we're working on them,"said Eric Gomez, the Sr. Vice President of Golden Boy Promotions, while speaking to BoxingScene.com.

Gomez and Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss various fight options for the card.

"We had a strategy meeting with Oscar yesterday, we went over different fights. We were mixing and matching. We're working on different things right now and so we're just trying to put together the best possible undercard we can and do what we do best - Golden Boy tries to make every fight a competitive fight," Gomez added on Wednesday morning.

Lucas Matthysse was supposed to make an appearance on this card before deciding to take himself out of the running last week, due to the injured eye he suffered during his knockout loss to Viktor Postol last October.

There is speculation that a junior middleweight contest between Patrick Teixeira and Curtis Stevens, and a welterweight tussle between Frankie Gomez and Mauricio Herrera, could be added to this bill.

But, Gomez cautions that nothing has been finalized as of yet.

"Hopefully within a week or so," said Gomez.
