OLYMPIC sensation Cameron "The Hammer" Hammond picked up his first title as a pro with a clear points win over Argentina's Alfredo Rodolfo Blanco in Moree, New South Wales on Saturday night.

The Aussie ace snatched the WBA's vacant Oceania welterweight crown with a calm and cool display over ten rounds.

Blanco, who came in with an impressive 11-1 record, attempted to make things awkward by regularly switching stances, but Hammond never let it affect him and was comfortably in control in most of the rounds.

The victory takes Hammond's record to 10-0 (4 KOs) and sets him up perfectly for further title opportunities in the autumn, including a rescheduled date with world ranked Kazak Roman Zhailauov.

"It feels great to have my first title as a pro and I'm very thankful to the people of my hometown of Moree for the support they showed me," Hammond said.

"He (Blanco) was a tricky opponent who didn't come to lie down, but I think I handled everything he had to won well. I can't wait for my next fight now."

Hammond was cheered on at ringside by his promoter and four-time world champion, Ricky Hatton, who travelled across the globe to see his charge do the business.

Hatton said: "I was very impressed with Cameron again tonight. He's shown that he's more than capable at ten round level against a very tough opponent and never looked like losing.

"This is the first time we've really let him off the leash and he passed the test with flying colours. I think he's just taken a massive step in showing people he's got the capabilities to get to where I think he will, and that's world title level one day."
