Callum Smith is scheduled to meet George Groves in the World Boxing Super Series super middleweight finals. But Smith's trainer, Joe Gallagher is getting a tad frustrated by the lack of news regarding this date.
"Very frustrated," he said to BoxingScene.com while still in Las Vegas, after working the corner of Liam Smith who battled Jaime Munguia for the WBO super welterweight title the night before at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Gallagher explained - "We were originally told contractually it would be the the end of August, September. As you've seen there's been lots of announcements for the World Boxing Super Series. The cruiserweight final was [on Saturday] night but George Groves is as much in the dark as we're in the dark as well."
Already season two of the WBSS is being mapped out with the draft gala for the bantamweight and super lightweight brackets being announced a few days ago.
The fight is slated for September, after being pushed back due to an injury suffered by Groves earlier this year.
"Callum Smith is frustrated, we're seven, eight weeks, possibly six weeks from what it was supposed to be, the beginning of September, yet still no announcement, no press conference and it's really getting frustrating," Gallagher continued.
"Everyone else seems or be hearing it's Saudi Arabia or wherever else but we've not been told and we're just completely in the dark."
Gallagher says he has fighter ready to go.
"100 percent, Callum Smith's training, he had a great week here training out in Las Vegas at the UFC Performance Institute over there. He's always ready to go and he's itching and he wants to crack on with his career," Gallagher said.
