Peter Rivera, the vice president of PR Best Boxing, announced that Ivan Calderon, the former WBO champion at 105 pounds, will have the opportunity to regain his crown on July 28 in Puerto Rico. He takes on the current WBO champion Moises Fuentes of Mexico. As Boxingscene.com reported earlier, Fuentes will return on June 2 with an optional defense against countryman Julio Cesar Felix (17-3, 7 KO's) in Tijuana, Mexico.
Calderon-Fuentes has been postponed several times. Rivera disputes the statements of Fuentes' trainer, who claims Calderon is not in condition to fight.
"He wanted to take a fight before [facing Calderon] and we said yes and told him to be careful. And that's what happened. Not that Ivan is out of shape as they say. Everything is agreed upon for July 28 in Puerto Rico, but we gave him the chance to make a defense, "explained Rivera.
