Brook: Mayweather Will Fight On, Confident I'd Beat Him

Kell Brook is ready to pass his "toughest" test against Diego Chaves next month before hunting down the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan.

The Yorkshireman will defend his IBF welterweight world title against rough Argentinian Chaves in his native Sheffield on October 24.

Unbeaten Brook will then chase down the division's big names having so far failed to land the mega-fights he craves.

"It's hard to make these big fights," he said. "We wanted Timothy Bradley for this fight but that fell through for whatever reason. Brandon Rios was another we looked at.

"In the end we've got Diego Chaves, who drew with Bradley in his last fight and was ahead against Rios before he got disqualified.

"I want to fight a massive name in the spring next year."

Pound-for-pound king Mayweather claims he will retire after his fight with Andre Berto this weekend but Brook, like many, believes the veteran will fight on.

"I don't think Mayweather will retire, I think he'll carry on and try to beat Rocky Marciano's record," he said.

"But if I was him, I wouldn't pick me as an opponent. I'd give him nightmares.

"I'd go in there confident I could beat him.

"If I had a choice of opponents my top three would be Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan. The top boys.

"Khan isn't a top boy but it would be a big, big fight and an exciting fight that appeals to the public."

Brook (35-0, 24KOs) knows he must first overcome Chaves (23-2-1, 19KOs) in what promises to be a barn-burner.

"It's a real fight," said the 29-year-old. "He's always in entertaining fights and it's a step up for me. It will be a thriller.

"I actually think this is my hardest fight and a harder fight for me than when I won the world title against Shaun Porter.

"He's been talking a lot about how he's going to beat me but we'll see what happens when I land my chocolate brownie right hand on his chin."

I feel as if he could have fought Floyd as number 49 if he really wanted to. I don't think he really wanted to.
