Pick It: TBRB #6 Angelo Leo vs. #10 Angelo Leo (Saturday, Showtime, 9 PM EST)
After a strong close to 2020, followed by a hot start to 2021, boxing basically took a couple weeks off. It’s back in the States with a solid card this weekend. For all the teeth gnashing right now about when the young guns will start facing off around lightweight, it’s starting to unfold rapidly at Jr. featherweight. 26-year old Angelo Leo (20-0, 9 KO) makes his first defense of the WBO strap facing a second straight undefeated aspirant in the class. This one is rescheduled and just as anticipated as it was the first time.
26-year old challenger Stephen Fulton (18-0, 8 KO) looks like the goods but so does Leo. This could be the start of something good. The undercard is also rock solid with 28-year old Vic Pasillas (16-0, 9 KO) facing 30-year old Raeese Aleem (17-0, 11 KO) in the same division for a WBA interim strap. 25-year old lightweight Rollie Romero (12-0, 10 KO), in his first start since a controversial win over Jackson Marinez, rounds out the card against 26-year old Justin Pauldo (14-1, 7 KO).
This is a hell of a way to kickstart the game after a quick respite.
Additional Show to Watch For
Wednesday - ShoBox Triple (Showtime, 9 PM EST)
This tripleheader inaugurates the action for the week. In the main event, 28-year old lightweight Yeis Solano (15-0, 10 KO) is scheduled for ten for the first time against 22-year old Mykquan Williams (15-0-1, 7 KO). Solano enters off a split decision win and Williams off a majority draw.
They’ll be joined on the night by a pair of featherweight encounters. 23-year old featherweight Martino Jules (10-0, 2 KO) faces 26-year old Pedro Medina (12-1, 8 KO). Medina has won eleven in a row since a dismissable decision defeat in his second start. 22-year old Jose Nunez (11-0-1, 4 KO) will come to scratch with Aram Avagyan (10-0-1, 4 KO) in a match of men who appear destined to go rounds. Will the night end with three new serious hopefuls to follow?
Only one way to find out.
