Boesel is Now Mandatory To Stieglitz; Johann Duhaupas Update

By Per Ake Persson

Erik Skoglund has relinquished his position as official challenger for EBU light heavyweight champ Robert Stieglitz last week and Dominic Boesel, reigning IBF I/C, WBA Con and WBA I/C champ, is the new official challenger.

The EBU have set May 8 for purse bids but a showdown between these two SES stablemates is not likely. Stieglitz has hinted at retirement while Boesel is in a position where a world title shot is very near.

Zakaria Attou (25-6-2) retained the EU superwelter title last night (April 15) in Deauville with a split decision over official challenger Maxime Beaussire in an all French matchup. After twelve hardfought rounds it was scored 115-113 and 116-113 in favor of Attou and 115-113 for Beaussire, now 23-1-1.

EC Boxing´s main event fighters are all heading to Turkey for a training camp as they prepare for the big event May 19 in Hamburg. In the headliner cruiserweight Mario Daser takes on Ola Afolabi while opponents for heavyweight Christian Hammer, light heavies Igor Mikhalkin and Karo Murat and super welter Sebastian Formella have yet to be announced. Joining the team in Turkey is super middleweight Yavni Yilderim and his trainer / manager Ahmet Oener.

French heavyweight Johann Duhaupas takes on Georgian David Gogishvili April 22 in Pori in Finland. Gogishvili is a southpaw, a decent fighter but looks rather soft around the midsection and he was stopped in one by Pezhman Seifkhani on his visit to Sweden last year. Also on the Pori bill is a veteran´s night with 50-year old Kai Kauramaki in his farewell fight and Aki and Sami Selesma.

Duhaupas will make quick work of Gogishvili. Time for Stieglitz to hang em up I think, don't see him beating Boesel at this stage or any other high level Euro fighters. And I thought Afolabi retired and had some long,…
