BJ Flores-Beibut Shumenov, WBA Title on Broner-Porter

By Rick Reeno

The date and venue has been set. has been advised that a cruiserweight battle between BJ Flores (31-1-1, 20KOs) and Beibut Shumenov (15-2, 10KOs) has been finalized for June 20th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with the vacant interim-WBA championship at stake. The Premier Boxing Champions card is headlined by a welterweight bout between former champions Adrien Broner and Shawn Porter.

The winner will fall in line for a title shot against current champion Denis Lebedev of Russia.

The fight was originally being targeted for June 12th in Chicago. That entire card was changed around when WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck was removed from the event. The initial plan was to have Huck headline against mandatory challenger Krzysztof Glowacki, and then Huck (provided he wins) would face the winner of Flores-Shumenov at a later card.

Flores was very active in 2014, returning after a near two year layoff and picking up three wins. Shumenov, a former champion at 175-pounds, lost a decision to Bernard Hopkins last April. He made his debut at cruiserweight in December with a fifth round stoppage of Bobby Thomas Jr.

Lol... How is this a title fight? Didn't the WBA repeatedly say they're getting rid of interim belts? Looks like Shumenov has the WBA in his pockets once again and a chance for BJ, although slim, to pick up some…
That is a solid Cruiserweight Match Up! I haven't watched a Cruiserweight Fight since probably Yoan Hernandez vs Tony Ross :nonono:
Troy Ross? Yeah, that fight was a huge robbery. The referee and judging were disgraceful.
