Billy Dib Blasts Out Sampaio With a Bizarre Ending

Former featherweight boxing world champion Billy Dib has taken another step towards fighting for a super featherweight title, with a second round stoppage of Brazilian Isaias Santos Sampaio.

Dib won the vacant Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) title in Saturday night's fight at Hurstville in Sydney, to improve his record to 39-3, with 23 KOs.

The victory is likely to earn him a WBA ranking in addition to the IBF and WBO rankings he already holds.

The fight ended in somewhat bizarre circumstances.

Dib floored Sampaio (19-10, 19 KOs) with a good left hook early in round two.

Sampaio looked out for the count and people started to enter the ring, only for the South American to suddenly spring back to his feet.

He hit Dib with a left uppercut but a few seconds later he was floored by a right hand.

The Brazilian's corner threw in the towel, even though Sampaio again quickly bounced back into an upright position.

"This fight was all about winning the PABA title," Dib said.

"Now that I've done that, it's just up the road to hopefully travel for a WBA title and that's the plan."
