WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight champion Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista got a chance to sharpen his skills during two rounds of sparring with Philippine super featherweight champion Bobby Pacquiao at the famed Ala Gym in Cebu, yesterday.
The younger brother of Ring Magazine featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao and the 18 year old Bautista who was conceding some 15 pounds in weight, engaged each other in a series of torrid exchanges over two furious rounds. Pacquiao said later that Bautista "is in top shape. He has a good jab and throws a lot of combinations. He is ready."
With barely two weeks to go before the blockbuster showdown against Mexican knockout artist Gilberto Bolanos on June 11 at the Mandaue City Sports Complex, Bautista was reportedly reaching peak form and is expected to be in top shape for the eagerly awaited clash with the Mexican punching machine. Titled "A Time For Revenge" the blockbuster fight card will be telecast on the top-rated boxing show "Main Event" at 1:00 p.m. on June 12 over RPN 9 sponsored by Tanduay, the No. 1 Rhum. Spicing up the show will be two stunningly attractive Viva Hot Babes who will serve as round girls.
Bautista had a chance to spar with Pacquiao who is training at the ALA Gym in preparation for a crucial fight against Carlos Navarro for the WBC Continental Americas title. Navarro is the same fighter who scored
a seventh round TKO victory over former two-division world champion Luisito Espinosa. The Pacquiao-Navarro clash will be telecast by ESPN.
It will be Bobby Pacquiao’s second appearance in the US. In his debut he won a lopsided eight round unanimous decision over Mexican journeyman Oscar Villa.
