Johnathon Banks, the head trainer for IBF middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin, wants his boxer to get a trilogy crack for a third meeting with Mexican star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
They fought to a controversial twelve round split draw in September 2017.
The rematch, which took place a year later, saw Canelo win a very close twelve round majority draw.
Banks is not in favor of Golovkin, now 38-years-old, going directly to a trilogy with Canelo.
Golovkin has been inactive since last October, when he won a very vicious war with Sergiy Derevyanchenko.
Both Banks and his boxer want to follow through with a mandatory defense against challenger Kamil Szeremeta.
Banks, who studied the first two meetings with Canelo very carefully, does want the rematch to happen in the near future.
"I'm a fan who wants it as well," Banks told Sky Sports. "I have a lot of information from the first fights.
"Canelo has also made adjustments every fight so I can't stare at their previous fights and think: 'This is how it will go'. It's good to watch their previous fights but not good to focus on, because each fighter looks different now. Those fights are not a blueprint to say: 'This is what we will do'."
Golovkin was trained for both bouts by Abel Sanchez. He parted ways with Sanchez in early 2019.
Banks has now trained Golovkin for his last two fights and explains that every fighter is different when it comes to taking direction, especially from a new coach.
"Take Wladimir Klitschko for example. I'd tell him: 'We need to do X, Y and Z'. Wladimir would say: 'Do you really think so?' I would explain my reasons then he'd say: 'Okay, I agree, let's do it'. But Cecilia Braekhus wouldn't say anything back except: 'Okay'. Different fighters say different things. I like to have a conversation with my fighter to see how they feel. Because talking about a game-plan and actually doing it are two different things," Banks said.
"Gennadiy loves getting feedback on his ideas. I told him: 'This isn't my way, my way, my way'. We must work together because I'm not the guy taking punches, Gennadiy is. We work together for a common goal."
