World Boxing Council International super middleweight champion, Avni Yildirim, has flown from Turkey to Los Angeles to ginger up Saul "Canelo" Alvarez`s hell for leather preparations for his rematch against WBC, IBF, WBA, IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, on Saturday May 5th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Yildirim made the trip to the United States just two weeks after his rugged unanimous decision victory over wily veteran Derek Edwards.
"When I heard that Canelo wants me in his camp, I immediately confirmed and jumped on the next plane" Yildirim said, adding: "It`s an honor for me to work with Saul and the experience will surely help us both towards world championships."
Yildirim currently holds the position no. 6 in the WBC rankings and hopes to have a chance against champion David Benavidez in the near future.
"I always said that my goal is to win the green and gold belt," says Yildirim."
IN OTHER NEWS: Movie icon Sylvester Stallone, has received a special commemorative belt from World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, honoring the 40 years of "Rocky Balboa".
The commemorative belt has the faces of ''Mr. T'', ''Rocky'' and José Sulaimán, on the left hand side of the belt, while on the other side, Muhammad Ali, '' Apollo Creed '' and '' Ivan Drago ''. Also, the plaque has the silhouette of the boxer from Philadelphia and the legend of his four decades of celebration.
"We present Stallone with the 40th anniversary belt. He is a great boxing ambassador," said Mauricio Sulaiman during the award ceremony.
The President of the Green and the Gold revealed that during the heavyweight clash between Deontay Wilder and Luis Ortiz, some scenes were made for the movie of "Creed II," in which "Rocky" stars as the coach of 'Apollo´s' son, and will face the son of' 'Ivan Drago''.
