Avalos-Torres, Solomon-Flores on Pharr, Texas Bill

Junior featherweight contender Chris Avalos and welterweight Brad Solomon have been added to Saturday’s fight card in Pharr, Texas.

The main event of the Top Rank card will be Diego Magdaleno fighting Hevinson Herrera in a 10 round lightweight bout. The bout will be televised on UniMas at 11 p.m. ET/PT.

Opening the “Solo Boxeo Tecate” broadcast will be a six round bout between unbeaten junior middleweights John Vera (6-0, 3 KOs) and Alberto Robles (3-0, 1 KO).

Avalos will be fighting Jose Cen Torres (13-5, 1 KO) in a 10 round tune up fight.

Avalos (24-2, 18 KOs) stopped Yasutaka Ishimoto in the eighth round of his last fight in Macau, China on May 31. It was an IBF title eliminator, with Avalos now being the mandatory challenger to the belt Carl Frampton now owns. Avalos, who resides in the Southern California city of Lancaster, has won his last five bouts in a row.

Solomon will fight Eduardo Flores (19-15-3, 13 KOs) in an eight round bout.

Solomon (23-0, 9 KOs) stopped Freddy Hernandez in the sixth round of his last bout on September 6 in Laredo, Texas.

Also on the card will be light heavyweight Egor Mekhontsev (5-0, 5 KOs), who won a Gold Medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. He will fight Jinner Guerrero in an eight round bout.
