This weekend, the 10th of December, sees a mouth watering fight between Ashley Theophane, 31, and Nigel Wright, 32 for the British Light Welterweight Title at the Peterlee Leisure Centre County Durham.

Theophane (30-4-1) the current champion who learns his trade training out of the gym for hard knocks in New York looks to make a second successful defense after winning the title from Lenny Daws back in February and then went on to defend it by Knocking out Jason Cook.

Theophane said “ I love going into the Lions Den and I’m sure Nigel will be in great shape, but there can be only one outcome and I will silence the fans from the North East on Saturday.

“I have been training hard in America for this fight and I am fully focused but this is just a stepping stone towards me winning a world title next year.”

Wright (24-6-1) has twice before fought for the British title losing to Lenny Daws on points and then more recently losing again by points to Ajose Olusegun.

Wright believes he has matured more over the years and learnt from his mistakes and will show all the doubters on Saturday night how much he has grown as a fighter.

“I will be going into this fight as the underdog, but I will take Theophane to places he has never been before. I will dedicate this fight to Gus and will bring home the Lonsdale belt so we can then say Gus had a British Champion”.

Chief support on the night will be a much anticipated rematch between Chris Edwards and Shinny Bayaar for the British Flyweight Title.

They fought back in 2009 were Bayaar won a disputed split points decision against Edwards.

Edwards has since gone undefeated winning the title from Paul Edwards  last time out in Liverpool.

Also on the undercard is the hot cruiserweight prospect Danny Price. Doors open 5:45 and tickets are still available from www.frankmaloney.com
