Artur Beterbiev on Andre Ward's Retirement, Title Shot, More

Artur Beterbiev challenges for his first World Title against Enrico Koelling on November 11th, hoping to take over the wide-open Light-Heavyweight division.

The Russian bruiser holds a perfect record and a 100% knockout ratio, something he will no doubt want to continue against Koelling. Speaking on Last Call Radio, Beterbiev spoke about what his German opponent brings to the fight..

“The training camp has gone very well. [Koelling] is a strong, experienced fighter, I respect that. I’m ready for this fight. I have a couple of strategies that I’ll show you on November 11th!”

Though this bout is now for the vacant IBF World Light-Heavyweight belt, things could have shaped up differently had Andre Ward not retired. However, the former amateur World Champion holds no ill-will towards the American.

“There’s no disappointment in [missing an Andre Ward bout]. Ward’s a very smart fighter. He’s took a decision to retire and I don’t think it surprised many fans. I respect his decision and I wish him good luck,” Beterbiev added.

For the time being the knockout artist is fully focused on the fight ahead but casts one eye to the future: “This is the most important fight of my career, I’m ready for the World Title, I’m ready for this fight. This is my dream, it’s one step closer to me. I’m ready.

“I want to win at least one belt. After that I want to fight the best boxer in my division!”
IMO, Ward would handle Beterbiev now without too much difficulty, but not in a few years. However, this is an absolute BS fight for a belt. Hate cupcake titles and Beterbiev's opponent has no business being in a title fight.…
he'd have beaten ward in my opinion. horrible horrible style match up for ward.
This is kind of a funny statement. What style has Ward not faced that Beterbiev would bring, that would make it a "Horrible x 2" matchup…
Yup... My guy Beterbiev would go for 3/3 on Kovalev... I don't think Kovalev can sustain Artur's power after what I saw with Ward...
Yeah agreed and I think those fights with Kovalev might have damaged him more than just…
At least he did not go down like the cheat in the first fight. I am sure Kovalev realized in the second fight he could not fight the cheat, the ref and the judges by himself.
The only "cheat" was…
