The WBC has been untangling some knots, concerning upcoming fights involving some of its champions and leading contenders.

Light Heavyweight Champion Chad Dawson is fighting Glen Johnson on April 12. But mandatory contender Adrian Diaconu of Canada wants his crack at the title. The WBC has ruled that Diaconu, who was previously injured, but has now fully recovered, will fight for The Interim Title on March 29 th in Romania. His opponent will the highest ranked available opponent. The winners of these two fights will then contest the title.

WBC interim-lightweight champ Joel Casamayor and Jose Armando Santa Cruz have unfinished business following their scrap in November of 2007, which ended in a very controversial decision win for Casamayor.

The WBC ordered an immediate re-match but at the official purse bid, Thompson Boxing Promotions withdrew its offer because Golden Boy Promotions, who promote Casamayor and Santa Cruz, was a no show.

WBC President Jose Sulaiman stressed: “Joel Casamayor has to fight this one or he will lose the title. If Joel fights Michael Katsidis (on March 22) that means he’s leaving the WBC, and we would have only one champion - David Diaz.”

Gary Shaw Productions offered thirty thousand dollars for the Omar Niño vs. Juanito Rubillar clash. Jose Sulaiman questioned the modest amount involved explaining: “The WBC has a clause that if the offer is very low, and it’s only one offer, we have the authority to decline it and call for a new purse offer for the future

“I thought it was very low and I didn’t think it was fair. I would say it’s an offense and a threat to justice for the kids.”

The matter will now be considered by the WBC’s Board of Governors.

Universum bid 411,840 dollars to pip Arena who offered 400,000 dollars to promote the final heavyweight eliminator this March in Germany, between Vladimir Virchis and Juan Carlos Gomez. Don Jose commented: “That was very interesting because with such an amount of money offered, eleven thousand or nearly twelve thousand more dollars is nothing. So it was a real surprise.”
