Carlos Ruiz and Sebastian Diaz both made weight for Friday’s headlining bout at Auditorio Plaza Condesa in Mexico City, Mexico.
Local favorite Ruiz (15-2, 5KOs) came in right at the 130-pound super featherweight limit, while Diaz (12-2, 10KOs) – who lives and trains six hours away in Aguascalientes – was a trim and ready 129 lbs.
Their scheduled 10-round bout headlines the first of two consecutive Boxeo Telemundo telecasts to air live from Mexico City (Friday, Telemundo, 11:35 p.m. ET).
Ruiz is 2-2 in his last four starts but enters on the heels of an impressive win in his last outing. The recently-turned 23-year old scored a 10-round shutout over Joel Montes de Oca (who fights on the undercard) this past March, having also aired live on Telemundo.
The win was preceded by a close, disputed points loss to former two-division champ Hozumi Hasegawa last December and a solid win over Raul Horacio Centeno last September on the road in Argentina.
Diaz comes in riding a four-fight win streak. The 22-year old southpaw has already scored two victories in 2016, although both coming versus nondescript opposition. Friday’s main event will mark his first Telemundo-televised appearance.
In supporting capacity, Montes de Oca returns (18-6, 10KOs) returns as he faces Luis Alberto Huilot in a scheduled six-round affair between Mexico City natives.
Montes de Oca checked in at 135.6 lbs. as he looks to snap a three-fight losing streak. Huilot - who has dropped two straight and accepted the bout on short notice - was a beefy 140.7 lbs.
