Popular East Coast light heavyweight contender Sean Monaghan (22-0, 14KOs) feel ready for a major title shot. Highly ranked by most of the major sanctioning bodies, Monaghan is eager to face three of the current beltholders - WBA 'regular' champion Juergen Braehmer, IBF/WBA champion Bernard Hopkins, or even WBC champion Adonis Stevenson.
Braehmer, Stevenson and Hopkins recently defended their titles and have no upcoming dates scheduled. WBO champion Sergey Kovalev already has a set return date on August 2nd against Blake Caparello.
"I think a lot of people are licking their chops at Adonis Stevenson. I don't think he looked that great in his last fight. Bernard Hopkins, definitely, at 49-years-old, he looked terrible in his last fight. He fights very selective guys. He's a very well matched up guy. I would blitz Bernard Hopkins. I would do what Maidana did to Mayweather, but with more boxing skill. I would keep the heat on him," Monaghan told BoxingScene.com.
This past Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Monaghan won a lopsided ten round decision over veteran Elvir Muriqi, but suffered a terrible cut around his left eye in the ninth round.
