Newly crowned WBA junior middleweight champion Jose Rivera told the Worcester Telegram & Gazette that he would like his promoter Don King push for a unification bout against WBC junior middleweight champion Oscar De La Hoya.

“What I would like (King) to do is to push a unification fight with De La Hoya and give me the same deal they gave Mayorga. I’ll fight him for $2 million and, believe me, I’ll be more than happy with that. It gives me and De La Hoya an opportunity to unify the championships. I mean, that’s a big fight. I know that De La Hoya is looking for a big fight to end his career. What better way than to try and go out on top?," Rivera told the paper.

Given the amount of big name fighters interested in being the final opponent for De La Hoya, it is very unlikely that Rivera will land the bout. The front runner for the September 16 bout is pound-for-pound king, Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
