It was reported by the Baltimore Sun that the long awaited rematch between WBC heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman and mandatory challenger Oleg Maskaev will take place in Las Vegas. The venue at the top of the running to stage the fight is the Thomas & Mack Center.

Initially, Arum was trying to hold the bout at the M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, but the July date that was available at the venue would have clashed with the upcoming Gatti-Baldomir HBO telecast.

The bout will be shown live on HBO's pay-per-view arm, with Rahman receiving a 70% split of the purse. The bout is a rematch of their 1999 battle in Atlantic City, which saw Maskaev win by knockout after he knocked Rahman out of the ring and to the floor in the ninth round.
