Eleider Alvarez (18-0, 10 KOs) could be one win away from landing the fight he wants most, a shot at WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson.
Alvarez will first have to get past Isaac Chilemba (24-2-2, 10 KOs) in a WBC final eliminator on a November date in Quebec. The fight is very possible to take place as the co-feature to the Lucian Bute-James DeGale showdown on November 28th.
Alvarez has been looking to get in the ring with Stevenson and the opportunity is very close, according to his promoter Yvon Michel of GYM.
Reaching an agreement should be easy. Both Alvarez and Stevenson are promoted by Michel and both of them are managed by Al Haymon.
Because the two fighters have the same handlers from every direction, there won't be any time wasted in getting them together and there won't be any worries about a long, drawn out negotiations period where two sides are unable to reach a deal and have to battle it out at a mandatory purse bid.
"Alvarez and Chilemba are both part of the elite fighters of the division. The fight promises to be a spectacular confrontation, intense and decisive for the rest of their careers. A win for Alvarez is going to push him to a world title fight against Adonis Stevenson. That is his goal. If he wins, a fight with Stevenson will take place next year, in 2016," Michel told RDS.
