WBC flyweight champion Pongsaklek Wongjongkam of Thailand said ex-champion Koki Kameda of Japan lacked heart during their recent fight in Tokyo. Wongjongkam won an upset decision over a previously unbeaten Kameda to lift the title last Saturday. When Kameda was a teenager, he was paid by Wongjongkam to be a sparring partner.
"He had bad manners [back then] but he had raw fighting spirit," Wongjongkam told the Japanese media. "This time his manners were good but he had no heart. I have faith in my technique. I have a lot of experience. I just told myself to keep calm and move forward and I got into my rhythm quickly."
After Koki was upset, his father and former trainer, Shiro Kameda, went nuts.
"The judges were a joke!" Kameda yelled. "The scoring was ridiculous."
Wongjongkam was upset for the title by Daisuke Naito in 2007. Kameda beat Naito last year to win it. Naito sat ringside to watch Wongjongkam beat Kameda. Now Naito and Wongjongkam might fight again in the coming months.
