Unless there is a late announcement, and UK media is reporting there will be none, Wayne McCullough's anticipated return to the ring is off. No fault of his own, unbeaten Euro super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez was unable to make the agreed upon weight of 124-pounds, coming in at 1.75 over the weight. He was given adequate time to shed off the weight, but was unable to do it.
There is minor hope of a late agreement for the bout to take place at a catch-weight.
The bout was a ten-round non-title contest as the EBU refused to sanction the fight, citing Wayne's years of inactivity. There is no word if the rest of the show at King's Hall in Belfast is moving forward.
McCullough was hoping to avenge the defeat of undefeated Dublin prospect Bernard Dunne, who Martinez destroyed in 86-seconds in August.
