There were doubts that Floyd Mayweather would face a tough opponent prior to possible a May 2007 meeting with Oscar De La Hoya, but Mayweather insists that a big name opponent is exactly what he wants before he meets the Golden Boy.

During a recent interview with  The Arizona Republic, Mayweather told the paper that he is willing to fight Shane Mosley first, then gun for De La Hoya. Mayweather called Mosley a piece of bait towards a showdown with De La Hoya.

"Shane don't understand, but he's just the bait. First, I'll beat Shane and then I'll beat his boss. Oscar is not going to retire. How are you going to retire when you haven't fought the best? I am the face of boxing and without me it's a dud," said Mayweather.

Currently Mayweather is set to return to the ring on November 4 as part of an HBO pay-per-view event, but has not been able to secure an opponent for the fight.

Mayweather has been offered a potential $8 million dollar payday against WBO welterweight chamion Antonio Margarito, if the fight is staged in October, which Mayweather says will not happen.
