Former British super-featherweight champion Kevin Mitchell is on the comeback road in July after over a year out and says his fight with former European lightweight titleholder John Murray (31-0) is his first step on the road to a world title in 2012.
Mitchell, 26, is adamant that he has the Manchester boxer's number aims to prove his credentials once again after his horror show against Michael Katsidis in May 2010. The Dagenham fighter then wants to climb back in the ring with the tough Aussie and gain revenge in what would be a high-profile rematch.
“I wanted the fight against John Murray,” Mitchell told The Fight Network.
“Get it on with him, show Britain who is the best on the domestic scene, I know it's me. Beat John Murray, show them I'm back, and then Katsides and then a World title fight.”
The fight has been pencilled in for July 9th in London and after lengthy negotiations, the two best lightweights in Britian will finally meet to see who is number one. The winner will 100% be in line for world title eliminator later in the year, with a full shot if successful in early 2012.
