Jhonny González, the World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight champion, has no problem with facing Abner Mares for a second time in a row, but doesn't think it's such a good idea. Last Saturday night in California, Gonzalez shocked the odds by scoring a first round knockout of Mares. There was a rematch clause, which Mares exercised a few days ago. The rematch should take place before the end of the year.
"The rematch [taking place] does not depend on me, it is a matter of what my promoters will present. I am ready for the moment they tell me to face this opponent or that opponent, with a good purse, and I'll go prepare myself," Gonzalez said. "If I were him, I would not do an immediate rematch after a knockout of that magnitude, because after such a defeat you are not doing well emotionally, but if his promoters are asking for it right now then we'll do the fight."
