It wouldn't matter how many tunes-up bouts took place, Leonard Ellerbe, close friend and adviser to Floyd Mayweather Jr., says Oscar De La Hoya (38-5, 30KOs) will not win a rematch. To prepare for the September rematch, De La Hoya plans to stage a tune-up bout in May.
"That's fine," Ellerbe told writer Dan Rafael. "Oscar can do whatever he wants to do. He can't beat Floyd anyway. It wouldn't matter if he took four tune-up fights."
Mayweather wants the rematch. It makes the most financial sense for him.
"This obviously makes the most sense for us, so this the fight that we're going to do. We're very comfortable with the deal."
