Veteran Mexican fighter Gilberto Bolanos is eager to battle WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight champion Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista and will arrive in Cebu on June 7, four days before his scheduled showdown with the promising eighteen year old at the Mandaue City Sports Complex.
Bolanos who is known for his rugged, knockout style is expected to use his experience to advantage against Bautista in a defining fight for the Filipino who is regarded as a possible future world champion.
Bolanos who has scored ten knockouts in his ten wins is a heavy puncher and has a string of impressive wins including a seventh round TKO of Karen Harutyunyan, a sparring partner of Manny Pacquiao during his preparation for the battles with Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez and one of trainer Freddie Roach’s prized fighters.
Bautista isn’t taking any chances and works out daily at the famed ALA Gym in Cebu, owned by Bautista’s manager, well known Cebu boxing patron Tony Aldeguer.
Promoter Sammy Gello-ani is putting together a blockbuster supporting card for the Independence eve fights which will be telecast on the top-rated weekly boxing show "The Main Event" of Viva Sports at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 12 over RPN 9.
