Antonio Tarver-Steve Cunningham Set For 8/14, PBC

Premier Boxing Champions has announced that a battle of former champions has been finalized for August 14th, on Spike TV, with Antonio Tarver (31-6, 22KOs) facing Steve Cunningham (28-7, 13KOs) in a heavyweight contest.

Tarver was last seen in action in December, when he stopped Johnathan Banks in the seventh round of a very one-sided fight that likely ended Banks' career as a fighter. Banks is also the head trainer of heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko.

Cunningham was in action back in March on the Sergey Kovalev-Jean Pascal undercard, where he lost a close decision to unbeaten contender Czar Glazkov. After that fight, he parted ways with his promoter of the last few years, Main Events, and signed up with manager/adviser Al Haymon (who also works with Tarver among 200 other fighters).

I don't mind this veteran matchup at all. Cunningham has had some decent fights the last couple years & I was impressed with tarver's KO of banks. Loser of this fight is done.

I was actually waiting with childlike anticipation when the young lady announced that PBC had a huge announcement coming up after the commercial break. When they actually made the announcement that it was a Tarver-Cunningham fight. Well, I laughed so…

I'd rather Briggs vs Tarver. That would be entertaining. Both talk trash and would be interesting to see how good Briggs is these days against someone experienced.

Great. Now throw in Briggs and Toney to make it a four man tournament for Toughest Old Fart In The World belt :boxing:

Cunningham by boring UD. Tarver is too fat and too slow.
