Virgil Hunter, the trainer of junior middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18KOs), wanted to respond to some of the recent comments that appeared on BoxingScene.com from Eddy Reynoso, the manager/trainer of former champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1, 30KOs).

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has presented several options to Canelo, and his team, for a March 8th return at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Showtime Pay-Per-View will carry the fight.

As previously reported, Schaefer prefers to make a fight between Canelo and Angulo, but Reynoso would rather have Canelo face IBF junior middleweight champion Carlos Molina.

Although Molina is one of the options presented by Schaefer, the Golden CEO expects non-stop fireworks if Angulo gets in the ring with Canelo.

Schaefer would rather match Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12KOs) in a rematch with Molina. The two boxers have unfinished business after fighting to a controversial ten round draw in 2011. One judge had Molina winning 97-93, while the other two scored it 95-95. If everything falls into place, Schaefer would love to pair Canelo-Angulo and Lara-Molina on the same card.

But, Reynoso is focused on the title around Molina's waist. Canelo's first choice was former three division world champion Miguel Cotto, but the Puerto Rican star has indicated that he won't be ready to fight by March, and it appears he will likely face middleweight champion Sergio Martinez on June 7th.

"We want to go forward and Angulo is coming off a knockout loss. Lara is a better option, but the ideal opponent is the champion Molina. He has all of the merits and people saw him on pay-per-view in September, and that is something that we would be looking for," Reynoso said.

Hunter disagrees with Reynoso's logic because both boxers are coming back from defeats. Canelo dropped a twelve round unanimous decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September. And Angulo gave Lara the toughest fight of his career. He had the Cuban fighter down twice, before suffering an eye injury that ended the fight in the tenth round. At the time of the TKO, Angulo was ahead on one card 86-83 and down by one point, 85-84, on the other two.

"Canelo just came off a one-sided drubbing to Floyd Mayweather. That really shouldn't be a reason [not to fight] because both of them are coming off of losses. Angulo administered a fight to Lara that he never had in his whole career. Whatever happened in the tenth round, and we all know it wasn't a knockout punch and Alfredo did not sustain a broken orbital bone. He had a scratched cornea. I have the doctor's record and the doctor said his cornea was scratched. And he was winning the fight one scorecard and was losing by one point on the two the other two," Hunter told BoxingScene.com.

"And then Lara comes back and dominates Austin Trout, who fought Canelo and you tell me....haven't you heard that [Canelo] winning that fight was debatable, that if it was in another state it might have went the other way...haven't you heard that? He got a win that might not have been a win if it wasn't in Texas that night and that's not a slight on the state of Texas, but I'm just going by what everyone else was saying that was involved in the fight."

"The bottom line is - Angulo is coming off a much more impressive style of fight in his last fight than Canelo. Even in losing, Alfredo proved to everyone who thought he was done - that he's far from done and that he's one of the best junior middleweights in the world. The world doesn't want to see Canelo fight with Molina. Canelo has to give the fans what they want. They want to see Canelo and Angulo. The fans would love to see Canelo and Angulo and Golden Boy wants to see Canelo and Angulo. There is no reason for them not to fight. They are both Mexican natives and the Mexican people want to see this fight. I think we need to reward fight fans who are looking for a good, tough, drag-out fight - and the only logical option [to get a fight like that] is Alfredo Angulo."
