Danny "Swift" Garcia (34-1, 20 KOs) and Shawn "Showtime" Porter (28-2-1, 17 KOs) will clash for the vacant WBC welterweight World Boxing Council title on Saturday, September 8, as part of a Showtime televised event presented by Premier Boxing Champions at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
This Monday, both fighters went face to face to officially announce the fight.
"I am excited and motivated to recover the world title. I know that I am better than Porter. On September 8, I will show them. I am a faster, stronger and I am a more skilled fighter. I have no doubt that victory will be mine," Danny commented.
Garcia (34-1, 20 KOs) is coming back from a knockout victory over Brandon Rios in February, in the fight that marked his return to the ring after the defeat he suffered against Keith Thurman.
Porter (28-2-1, 17 KOs) has sought to face Garcia for some time and now he finally gets his shot. In his most recent fights, he secured wins over Andre Berto and Adrian Granados.
Angel Garcia, the father and trainer of Danny Garcia, sees nothing special about Porter.
"I don't see anything special in Shawn Porter. He comes with his head, he comes wild. We're going to take care of him and we're going to work on him. He's not bringing anything to the table that I haven't seen before. It's Danny's time," Angel said.
"At the end of the day we got a fight. Words are just words. I'd give my life for Danny. I'd take a bullet for him, I love him. Listen, when Danny hits him on the right side he's going to feel it on the left. My son's power is like nothing he's ever seen before.
"Listen, at the end of the night September 8th, Danny will be champion again. That belt is coming home with us and back to Philadelphia."
