Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. broke new ground in the boxing business by becoming promoters while they were still active and promoting their own fights.
Continuing in that trend is former super middleweight contender Alfonso Lopez, who will be promoting a card under his El Tigre banner in which he will fighting in thee main event at the Humble Civic Center on the outskirts of Houston on Friday, June 22.
Lopez (27-3, 21 KOs) will take on Colombian Francisco Cordero (38-11, 29 KOs) for the obscure ABO (American Boxing Association) light heavyweight title.
While Lopez, at 34, might be at the tail end of his boxing career, the card will feature several undefeated young fighters.
Local southpaw Raphael Igbowke (9-0, 4 KOs) faces Rudy Lazano (3-12-3) in a middleweight bout. A second-generation Nigerian-American, Igbokwe, 25, resides in the city with the largest Nigerian population outside of Nigeria. It will be Igbokwe's third fight this year and he is scheduled to fight again next month in Austin.

Welterweight Brandun Lee (9-0, 7 KOs) takes on Ray Trujillo (1-5-3).
Antonio Williams (6-0, 4 KOs) faces. Raymond Chacon (7-30-1) in a super featherweight fight.
Featherweight Armando Frausto (5-0, 4 KOs) fights Juan Guerrero (1-3, 1 KO).
Roberto Silva Jr (9-1, 6 KOs). and Jeremy Parks (6-23-3, 2 KOs) clash in a light heavyweight bout.
Junior welterweight Rege Harrison (7-1-2, 2 KOs) vs. Stephon Macintyre (3-41-4, 1 KO)
Saul Mendez (record unknown) takes on Trevion Marshall (0-2) in a junior welterweight bout.
And featherweight Christian Morris (0-1) faces. Nicholas Jackson (record unknown).
