Alfante, Diale Ready For WBC Asia Continental Title Fight

By Carlos Costa

MANILA, Philippines  --  The fighters made weight at the GAB Office Manila.   Cris Alfante of Zamboanga del Norte and Ardin Diale of Sarangani successfully weighed-in at the limit of the flyweight division, 112 lbs., for their tough 12-rounder battle for the vacant WBC Asia Boxing Council Continental Flyweight in the exciting Gabriel "Bebot" Elorde's "Night of Champions" Saturday evening (July 7) at Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines.

The 26 year-old Alfante as well as Diale, 29, of the Dino Olivetti Boxing Gym are both experienced fighters gunning for the coveted title green & gold Asian Continental belt.

They appeared confident and in excellent physical shape during the GAB official scale-in ceremony today (Friday), easily making weight in their first attempt.

The fight supervisor for Alfante vs Diale clash for the WBC Asia Boxing Council is Rafael M. Diokno of the Games and Amusement Board.

In the chief supporting bout, 21 year-old Ronnie Wowie" Campos of Bacolod scaled-in at 126 lbs., while 25 year-old Cebuano Zoren Pama  -  a man who years ago got in the ring with none other than Thailand's Srisaket Sor Rungvisai  -   made 124 pounds for their 8-rounder war in the featherweight division.    Campos, who last year lost by points in a tough battle in Japan, is an Elorde fighter; while Pama is a former Elorde man, now boxing for the Peñalosa stable.

Also, Giovanni  Escaner and "Bambam" Jecker Buhawe both made 120 pounds for their 8-chapter saga in the super bantamweight division.   Escaner, 28, is an Elorde boxer, while the experienced Buhawe belongs to the Gandeza-Kambal Boxing Stable.

At flyweight, 23 year-old Ricardo "Smiley" Sueno Jr. (7-2-3, 3 KO's) of Bacolod, Negros Occidental, and Joel "Dondon" Taduran, 24, (8-8-1, 2 KO's) of the Art Monis Hardstone Boxing Stable - easily made 112 lbs., setting the stage ready for their 8-stanza skirmish that is likely to last the distance.

In addition, 20 year-old Al Toyogon (7-2-1, 4 KO's) of Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental correctly made 130 lbs., while Catanduanes-born Germaine Dela Rosa (4-10-2, 1 KO) of the Prime Time Boxing Gym in Pampanga after trying to reduce weight, was still 4 pounds overweight at 134 lbs.  Therefore, as per GAB regulations the 24 year-old Dela Rosa is required to climb the ring for the 8-rounder wearing 10 ounces gloves.
