AIBA Considering a Five Judge Scoring Panel For 2020 Olympics

The International Boxing Association is pursuing disciplinary action against the referees and judges sent home from the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro for failing to properly officiate fights.

AIBA says "individuals and associated federations have been forwarded to the disciplinary commission for further investigation, with appropriate actions to follow.''

An unspecified number or referees and judges were dismissed during the Olympics after AIBA determined they had not met its standards of competence.
AIBA commissions met in Lausanne this week to review the Olympic boxing tournament, in which a handful of questionable decisions led to widespread condemnation of the judging and refereeing.

AIBA says its officials must comply with codes of "respect, fairness, integrity and transparency.''

The federation is also considering the introduction of a five-judge scoring system and a review of the certification process for referees and judges for the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo.

IN OTHER NEWS: Well-known boxing man Sean Gibbons who worked with international promoter/matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz to win the purse bid and bring the IBF super flyweight championship between defending champion McJoe Arroyo and MP Promotions Jerwin Ancajas told The Standard that Jerwin “had a great shot, fought above himself and captured the moment.”

Gibbons who flew to London early Sunday to be at the O2 Arena for the IBF flyweight title defense of Johnreil Casimero against unbeaten Charlie Edwards on September 10 said Ancajas who had “an opportunity to fight before his hometown crowd helped bring Jerwin to another level” which the newly crowned champion himself recognized, telling us the crowd gave him a huge lift.

Gibbons revealed that they were “lucky to win the purse bid for MP Promotions because a lot of people in the US wanted to bring it there” but they told them “its not about the money, its about the opportunity to fight here in the Philippines. It’s a dream and Jerwin fulfilled that dream.”

Senator Manny Pacquiao received the belt from Ancajas in a courtesy call at his Forbes Park residence and invited him to report to his senate office on Monday where he is expected to give Ancajas who received a very small amount as his purse, a hefty bonus for giving MP Promotions  its first world title.

That won't stop the payoffs from happening before the games start.

Why not 20 judges? Fix it so there are too many judges to bribe all of them.
