Dangerous Colombian puncher and challenger to the world featherweight championship of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), Miguel "Scorpio" Marriaga, has already arrived in New York, for what will be a tough showdown this Saturday March 14, at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden.

Marriaga will look to upset the wide odds when he challenges undefeated world champion Shakur Stevenson, in the main event bout of a card being staged by Top Rank.

"I feel very optimistic, with the mentality of winning, of winning the fight," Marriaga said with confidence.

Accompanied by his promoter Ricardo Maldonado Jr., professor Samuel Gómez and his compatriot Belmar Preciado, the entire team is already at the headquarters of the fight - where an upset win would create a big turning point in the career of Marriaga.

"We finished an excellent preparation, I think we are at one hundred percent," said Marriaga, who also notes that "we have worked with greater demand, greater demand in the gym and in the whole preparation."

Marriaga (29-3 and 25 KOs) will have his fourth world title opportunity, while Stevenson (13-0 and 7 KOs) will be making his first defense of the WBO belt.

He suffered defeats when challenging for belts against Vasiliy Lomachenko, Oscar Valdez and Nicholas Walters. Lomachenko was the only boxer to stop Marriaga inside the distance.

Since the loss to Lomachenko, Marriaga has won four bouts in a row - and all four wins have been by knockout.

“Back at home they hope for the best, I think they always give me what is necessary for each fight, I do my job and we go for that victory and that is the most important thing,” he concluded.

The transmission of the combat will be handled by ESPN in the United States and Canal Space for Mexico.
