MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Former three division world champion Abner Mares (28-1-1, 15KOs) stopped Jose Ramirez (24-4-2, 15KOs) in five rounds of brutal action.

It was bombs away in the first round. Both fighters were throwing caution to the wind and exchanging shots at close range. Mares got the better of the action, scoring a knockdown and outlanding Ramirez. In the third, Mares scored another knockdown as they were brawling it out against the ropes. Mares came close to putting him away as he continued to rain down the power shots.

Ramirez nearly went down again in the fourth from a hard hook to the body. In the fifth, Mares dropped him hard and then Ramirez lost another point for intentionally spitting out the mouthpiece to buy time.

Before the start of the sixth, the fight was stopped at the advise of the ring doctor.

In an IBF junior middleweight eliminator, Jermall Charlo (20-0, 16KOs) demolished Lenny Bottai (22-3, 9KOs) in two rounds. Charlo was busting up Bottai in the first round, opening up a cut above his eye. In the second, Charlo drilled Bottai with a left hook to the top of the head and he went down hard. Bottai got, barely, and the referee waved off the fight as Bottai's corner threw in the towel.

Jermell Charlo (25-0, 11KOs), who was originally scheduled to face WBO junior middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade on the card, won an easy ten round unanimous decision over Mario Lozano (27-6, 20KOs). Charlo had very few issues with outboxing Lozano in every round. All three judges scored it 100-90.

Hot rising welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr. (15-0, 10KOs) battered Javier Castro (27-8, 22KOs) over five rounds. Spence was tagging Castro easily with both hands from the very first bell. Spence was unloading with ease and nearly every punch was landing flush as Castro had few answers. Very passing round was pretty much a mirror image of the first, with Spence unloading most of his shots
