McWilliams Arroyo will hit the road for his first world title shot, as his bout with reigning flyweight titlist Amnat Ruenroeng is set for September 14 in Thailand.

“We already confirmed and the fight will be on Sunday, September 14, in Thailand, so McWilliams continues focused on his training and we will coordinate all matters relating to the date on which we will travel to this fight, said Peter Rivera, PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) Vice-President, in a press statement.

Arroyo (15-1, 13KOs) became the mandatory challenger to Ruenroeng’s portion of the flyweight crown with an emphatic 2 nd round stoppage of Froilan Saludar in June, at home in Puerto Rico. The two camps began negotiations immediately thereafter, but the bout wound up going to purse bid and was won by Ruenroeng’s promoter, Jimmy’s Boxing.

Ruenroeng (13-0, 5KOs) makes the second defense of the title he won earlier this year at home in Thailand. His lone title defense serves as the biggest win of his career, scoring a minor upset over former two-division champ Kazuto Ioka on the road in Japan this past May.

As per the terms of the purse bid, Arroyo will make just over $50,500 for his first title fight. The bout marks his first business trip back to Asia since serving along with twin brother McJoe Arroyo on the Puerto Rico Boxing squad in 2008 Beijing Olympics.
