Promoter Tutico Zabala of All Star Boxing says the team behind Saul "Canelo" Alvarez made a huge mistake in accepting a fight with WBA 'regular' junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara on July 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Zabala has an ongoing lawsuit against Golden Boy Promotions, claiming that Canelo had a valid promotional contract with his company when Golden Boy signed him. A trial date is set for October 13th in Miami.

Zabala admits that he has no proof, but in his opinion Canelo-Lara was made by former Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer with the possible intention of hurting his former company. Canelo-Lara was the final fight put together by Schaefer before his departure from Golden Boy.

Some believe Schaefer left Golden Boy with the intention of joining a new company being created by powerful adviser Al Haymon, who coincidently handles the career of Lara. There is now a legal battle between Schaefer and Golden Boy, who reportedly sued their former CEO for $50 million dollars.

"I can not say if it happened this way and I don't have proof, but this fight was prepared by Richard Schaefer, who left Golden Boy and aims to make his own company. He knows that if Canelo loses, and has a real chance to lose, Golden Boy sinks. Canelo is the lifeline of Golden Boy," Zabala told George Ebro.

"This is a fight that I really would have never accepted for Canelo. I would have searched for a collision with Miguel Cotto. Lara is dangerous and I do not know if the people around Canelo have realized that."
