Heavyweight contender Deontay Wilder was in attendance at the Bermane Stiverne and Chris Arreola heavyweight clash this past Saturday night as he got a close look at his possible future opponent. Wilder is the mandatory challenger for Stiverne’s newly acquired WBC title and hopes to get in the ring with him soon.

Wilder won a bronze medal in the 2008 Olympics but he’s eager to put some gold around his waist and capture his first world title. He now knows that he will need to go through Stiverne in order to make his dream a reality and he feels it will be an easy night for him when they meet.

“I see it as an easy fight. Easy fight. It’s an easy fight because I have so much more advantages. I’m taller, my arms are longer. I’m faster. I’m stronger. I’m sexier” said Wilder with a smile.

“Everything I do better. I look better. I smell better. All jokes aside, I’m faster, my arms are longer, of course I’m taller. All tall fighters love to have a small guy especially when you’re a fighter who fights tall, it’s easy. You seen many times [Stiverne and Arreola] hesitated. They were up close and didn’t want to initiate nothing but me having longer arms, I can sit back as far as I can and I’m still hitting [you]. And as far as Stiverne, he holds his hand down and that’s going to be a dangerous thing against a tall fighter with quick speed like I have”.

One thing we know for sure about Wilder is the power is real. His 31 knockouts in 31 fights is the proof but Wilder also feels the many unknowns about him is also what makes it hard for fighters to prepare for him.

“Nobody knows how to prepare for me. Nobody knows if I can take a shot. Nobody knows if I can go past 4 rounds. Everybody thinks about the right hand and they’re always sadly mistaken when I get up in there. My bro Malik Scott, they tried to poison his mind with Deontay Wilder only has a right hand. But he’s been around me so long and been in a lot of great camps he said nah, Deontay Wilder is not just all about the right hand. Bro got more than that” Wilder would tell BoxingScene.

Now Wilder will have to play the waiting game as even though he is the mandatory challenger for the belt, Stiverne’s promoter Don King made it clear during the post fight press conference that they will have an optional defense before they are required to fulfill their mandatory obligation.

Regardless of when his time comes, Wilder is ready for his opportunity and feels all questions will be answered.
